Brown F.I.S.H.

Brown F.I.S.H - Nigel "Private Eye" Brown, Computer Information System major at Coppin State College, Derrick "OOH" Jones and Ian "Jahiti" Smith, both Maryland educators, form the mega hip-hop group Brown F.I.S.H.

Brown F.I.S.H., the name stems from Sunday meetings at Big Rudy's Crestview home in Baltimore, Maryland: the F.I.S.H.'s hometown, which they refer to as "Balti". Whenever the group formerly known as "Lost Tribe" had weekly meetings they also had a mandatory fish fry. After eating, they discussed business while partaking in herbal essence rolled flat on one end, resembling the tail of a fish. After discovering a group under Trick Daddy's Slip-n-Slide label had their name, they had to institute a name change. OOH says jokingly, "lets call the group Brown F.I.S.H." Why? For the fried fish at those unifying meetings, and those infamous "strictly leaf" brown cigars. Later they added the acronym (F.I.S.H) First I'll Save Hip-Hop being the goal and the struggle of the "F.I.S.H."

Jahiti's Jamaican heritage gives him the reggae mystic vibe, which blends well with P. Eye's streetwise savvy and OOH's witty arrogance to astonish audiences everywhere. Since the birth of the "F.I.S.H" in 1998, there have been many changes with members, production, and plans for the future. Now, under Raw Entertainment the "F.I.S.H" state that they only have one major plan- "dominate underground and mainstream hip-hop from "Balti" and beyond!"

Derrick “ no fuckin' middle name” Jones arrived physically in 1976; to an ill, crime infested West Baltimore section of Maryland- Poplar Grove. Rhyming since the age of 10 with aliases such as Derricky D (1986-1989), The Griot (African Storyteller) (1990-1992), and Ooh Child (1993-1994). He later takes on the name O.O.H. Why the periods, you ask? The name is an acronym for Offspring Of Hip-hop. He believes in only one Immaculate Conception, his mother, impregnated by the hip-hop culture. You can tell, he has his mother's eyes, KRS-ONE's craving for knowledge, and the “89” Big Daddy Kane's quick to get in your ass style. OOH describes his style as that same lecture you get from your grandmother, but coming out the mouth of your big brother. He concluded by saying, “ Just think the same nutrients in those beans you hate can be found in a good piece of F.I.S.H. and it taste better, THINK ABOUT IT! P.E.A.C.E. to the NGE.”

Early 1976, in the Bronx section of NYC, a sensational mix of Hip-hop and Reggae was born. Ian Smith, known to the world as Jahiti the Messenger takes his name from “Jahiti”, an angel that sat at the foot of god. There is not much written about Jahiti the Messenger because he is a strong believer in the oral tradition, and wants to only be heard through his music.

Nigel Brown aka Private Eye is a 3-year veteran. In his short period of time in the rap scene he has done what others find extremely hard to do and that is master his own style. The name Private Eye stems from his constant investigation for new knowledge. He believes hip-hop is nothing but a tool to help express everyday feelings. He is known for his henny on da rocks special, slap boxin, and rollin fucked up blunts (strictly leaf no phillies). He states being a full-time father and MC can be very difficult because at times he has to make the decision whether he should finish his rhyme or change his son's diaper. Sad to say, but finishing his rhyme usually wins. He states, “ We both might as well be on some funky shit”.
